  • Elliotte Friedman: “Looks like no final decision on OT. More discussion to come on starting 3-on-3 or using AHL model. But it sounds like GMs do want change.  Tablet or monitor to be added for refs for a coaches’ challenge-style event with goaltender interference. Lose a timeout if wrong. Also, there will discussion about NFL-style setup where in last minute, everything gets reviewed. More on challenge for goaltender interference: can only be used on a goal, can’t be used to call a penalty (only goal/no-goal). And if a coach had no time-outs, can’t call for a challenge. On 3 on 3, GMs want it…will be up to NHL and NHLPA to sort out if right away at start of OT or later.”
  • Sportsnet: Dave Andrews, commissioner of the AHL, joined Hockey Central to talk about the different rule changes potentially taking effect in the NHL.

  • Shawn McKenzie: “Regarding goalie interference coaches challenge. Coach can challenge if he has a timeout. If he is wrong in his challenge he loses timeout. No coaches challenge in Overtime. Would be an automatic review.”
  • Renaud Lavoie: “Coaches can also challenge puck over glass if they feel a penalty shouldn’t call by the refs. This will be a Toronto review.”
  • Nick Kypreos: “Interest’ concept coming out of #NHL GM meetings on 3 on 3 in OT. Go straight to it for 5 min or gradually go to it by adding more min to OT”
  • Dan Rosen: “GMs will go back to players and ultimately NHLPA to determine format for 3on3, either AHL format or maybe 5 minutes of 3on3.”
  • Katie Strang: “Dale Tallon had previously pushed for coach’s challenge. 4 years ago, vote was 28-2 against. Today it was favored almost unanimously 29-1″
  • Katie Strang: The earliest the changes could be implement would be next season.
